About

I've spent over a decade trying to make advertising feel less like advertising. That means finding the human truth inside a financial ETF brief dedicated to technology, turning HR software into something people actually want to watch, and, through an unlikely series of events, becoming the voice of a talking cat for five years.

I have no regrets about any of it, including the cat.

I got my start at Crispin Porter + Bogusky, where I sold through a Super Bowl campaign for Coke Zero as an intern. The budget eventually collapsed and the idea got smaller, which, honestly, made it better. And I've been chasing that feeling - the one where a weird, right idea actually escapes into the world - through Made Movement, EVB, Swift+Possible, VaynerMedia, Zambezi, and most recently WME/160over90, where I've led creative for Invesco QQQ ETF and USAA.

I have a Master's from VCU Brandcenter and a law degree from UVA that I am disproportionately proud of and use approximately twice a year. I love to mentor writers, I care deeply about craft, and I've never once believed that "it's a boring category" is a real excuse.

I'm based in Richmond, VA, where I work remotely, and live with my lovely wife, my charming daughter, and a pair of trouble-making kitties.

I'm also a self-taught illustrator: instagram.com/davidsatterfield
